January Trip to Omaha

I flew to Omaha last weekend to attend the Ryerson holiday party. It was a quick trip, but fun. It's nice that Frank knows his way around a little bit more.

I got to visit the infamous Biltmore, Frank's temporary apartment. Although Frank does not speak highly of his current accomodations, it is better than a hotel and I thought it was actually kind of nice. (A perfect spring break destination for the whole family?)

We also made time to visit the much talked about "Nebraska Furniture Mart" - I thought it might be one of those "it's big for Omaha, but..." -- But, seriously it was overwhelmingly enormous. It was a whole complex of warehouses, each marked with its contents like "flooring" or "electronics" or "home furnishings" -- we went through just a couple of departments, but we decided if our house in Omaha requires any new furniture, we will be making a return trip to the Mart.

I landed around 11:30 am on Saturday and we drove directly to one of the local Chili's for lunch. (Yes, there is more than one Chili's...) After lunch, we went by the plant. It reminded me a lot of the Scranton branch of Dunder-Mifflin, and I got the full tour of the warehouse and the offices. I can see why Frank is so excited about his new job! He really is a "man of steel" in Omaha!

We spent a couple of hours driving around various potential neighborhoods - I have been doing a lot of internet house hunting and Frank has been taking my findings and driving to the specific neighborhoods. We actually drove to about 5 neighborhoods - lots more work to do there!
Of course, we attended the Holiday party at the Upstream Brewing Co. - good food and good company! We stayed out late for us... as one of Frank's co-workers put it, "one of the only bad things about Omaha is that all of the bars close at one a.m...." Yeah, gee, how are we ever going to cope with that? :)
We found a Panera for breakfast on Sunday and then headed to the airport. I don't think that it will take long to get used to the fact that we were still in the parking garage only 35 minutes before our flight took off... and we still had plenty of time! It's a far cry from O'Hare (in mostly good ways...)
Thanks for reading this hodge-podge post! I had a little trouble getting the pictures and words where I wanted them...I'll keep practicing -- the journey is only beginning...

Trying this out...

Thought it would be a good idea to get a blog going (all the cool kids are doin' it these days)!
Of course, everyone will want to track our every move as we get closer to June and as we set up shop in Omaha... Here goes nothing...
